Pukerangiora Hapū

Our marae

At the heart of our hapū stands Kairau Marae. Learn more about its story or enquire about booking a visit.

Kairau Marae

Located just 5km from Pukerangiora Pā, our marae has been a gathering place for generations. Several generations have grown up there since the tūpuna built the wharenui in the 1930s. The wharenui was named Te Hungaririki, meaning ‘the young children’, for our tamariki. Kairau is where we uphold our traditions, share our whakapapa, and keep our hapū connected. The marae is cared for by a board of trustees, who help guide its development and ensure it continues to serve our people.
